South Korea Rising as a Study Destination
For Hyderabad students considering Asia, South Korea is fast becoming the destination of choice — and the reasons go well beyond K-pop and K-drama. The Korean Wave has raised global awareness of a country that was already a powerhouse in technology, manufacturing and research.
The Korean Wave Effect
The global popularity of Korean culture — music, cinema, fashion and food — has created a generation of Indian students who arrive in Korea culturally curious and genuinely motivated. Universities have noticed: international enrolments from India have grown significantly over the past five years.
Samsung, LG & Hyundai Connected Universities
Korea's top universities have deep research and recruitment partnerships with Samsung Electronics, LG, SK Hynix, Hyundai and Kia. Engineering and computer science graduates from KAIST and POSTECH are directly recruited by these global companies — giving Hyderabad students a clear pathway to careers at world-leading firms.
Scholarship-Heavy System
South Korea allocates more government funding to international student scholarships relative to its size than almost any other country. This makes it genuinely possible for a Hyderabad student from a middle-income family to study at a top-10 global university with full financial support.
Korean Universities That Hyderabad Students Should Know
Seoul National University
Korea's most prestigious institution, consistently ranked in the global top 40. Highly competitive — GoWest helps you build a competitive application from Hyderabad.
KAIST (Ranked #56 World)
Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology is Asia's MIT equivalent. Almost all programs are in English. Research stipends are available for most postgraduate students.
POSTECH
Pohang University of Science and Technology is among the world's best science universities by research output per faculty. Small class sizes and exceptional lab facilities.
Yonsei & Korea University
Known collectively as "SKY" universities alongside SNU, both offer strong English programs in business, international studies and humanities alongside engineering and science.
KGSP — Korean Government Scholarship Programme
The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) is one of the most generous full-ride scholarships available to Indian students anywhere in the world. Hyderabad students who meet the eligibility criteria should prioritise this application above all others.
What KGSP Covers
Full tuition at any government-designated Korean university, a living stipend of approximately $900 (Rs 75,000) per month, return airfare from India to Korea, and a Korean language training allowance for the first year.
Eligibility for Indian Students
Open to Indian nationals under 25 years old (undergraduate) or under 40 (postgraduate) with a minimum GPA of 2.64/4.0 (roughly 60% equivalent). Neither the applicant nor their parents can hold Korean citizenship.

Cost, Language & Post-Study Work
Tuition & Living Costs in INR
Government university tuition: KRW 3–5 million/year (~Rs 2–4 lakh/year). Living expenses in Seoul: KRW 600,000–900,000/month (~Rs 40,000–60,000/month). Smaller cities like Daejeon and Pohang are 20–30% cheaper.
Korean Language (TOPIK)
Most undergraduate programs require TOPIK Level 3–4 for Korean-medium instruction. English-medium programs at KAIST, POSTECH and international departments do not require TOPIK. GoWest advises on which route is best for your profile.
Post-Study Work in Korea
The D-10 job-seeking visa lets graduates stay and search for employment after graduation. Korea's point-based immigration system gives a clear PR pathway for skilled workers. Indian engineers and software developers are in growing demand at Korean tech companies and global firms based in Seoul.
